Whenever we’re on the Square in Marietta, we love popping into Cool Beans Coffee. The Square is a great place for sure, with lots of quaint shops and fun things to do. This time of year (November as I type), we’re getting ready for Christmas, and there’s a dedicated Christmas Shop (they sell candy too to be fair) and an English specialty store with British yule treats. We like to start our mornings on the square with a brew from Cool Beans, and usually take home a bag of java, too.
Wait what’s that you say? You’re here for a beer review, not a sales pitch for a coffee shop? Patience, grass hopper. Maybe you should go grab a beer at Johnnie MacCracken’s (also on the square) and wait for us. If you’re lucky, they’ll have Red Hare Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed Coffee IPA, even. Which is made with Cool Beans coffee. See? I knew I had a point here somewhere.
I have seen Red Hare Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed Coffee IPA in cans at Kroger. There is no mention of it on the Red Hare website, thought they did tweet this on September 25th of 2017:
Bright-Eyed & Bushy-Tailed Coffee IPA! Grab a sixer at the brewery, and find it at your local Taco Mac!
So, I did just that, I ordered up a mug at my local Taco Mac here in Canton. The beer has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume and was running $6.50 here. This is the second coffee beer for Red Hare after Long Night Lager.
My mug of Red Hare Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed Coffee IPA arrived a dark orange in color with a medium head of creamy foam and a robust coffee grind nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a smooth malty palate, more roasty coffee throughout and a grassy hop bitter finish with even more coffee notes poking through in the finish.
Is this a coffee or is this a beer? A little of both, I think, and a darned good brew either way. Bright-Eyed & Bushy-Tailed Coffee IPA! Grab a sixer at the brewery, and find it at your local Taco Mac!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
