My initial impressions on Abita Peach Lager: it doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is, a tasty fruit beer packed with luscious peach that is perfect for warm weather sipping. Part of the Abita Harvest Series of beers, this is a rotating selection along with Abita Blueberry, Abita Strawberry Lager, and Abita Sweet Orange Lager.
I enjoyed a mug in early September at my local Taco Mac. My daughter had a sip and liked it so much she got one, too. It was true refreshment on a warm early evening; we enjoyed it with chips and salsa with spicy queso dip.
From the website:
Fresh Louisiana peaches are handpicked for this smooth lager. Pale malt gives the beer a sweet, crisp taste, with abundant amounts of ripe, juicy peaches added in the brewhouse to capture the flavors and aromas of real, fresh fruit. All our Harvest Series brews are made with the finest Louisiana-grown ingredients.
Abita Peach Lager has an alcohol content of 4.5% with 15 IBUs. I paid $5 for a 20-ounce mug andf got a neat Abita Oktoberfest mug with purchase. It runs just $7.99 a six-pack at Total Wine, so an extra half star for a true bargain beer.
My mug of Abita Peach Lager arrived a hazy yellow orange color with a thin filmy head off foam and luscious juicy peach aroma in the nose. In the palate, the beer bursts with the wonderful fruitiness the nose promised, with crackery wheat underneath and a balanced finish.
If you love peach, this is the beer for you. Judging this as a fruit beer, it’s a good one, and a beer I’ll be looking for in the bottle. Especially for when my daughter is coming over….
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
