Patriot's Reserve American Lager

Sunday! SUNDAY!!!! Admit it, you read that in Al Roker’s voice. I know I wrote it in Al Roker’s voice. You see, Sunday is football Sunday for almost half the year, and those are the best Sundays chez Bruguru. Food, family, football, and of course, beer. As Daniel Boone so famously sang in the 80s, Hi! Hi! Hi! Beautiful Sunday, this is My! My! My! Beautiful Day.

Anyway, there I was at Aldi picking up some things for the traditional game day feast. I strolled by the beer section where they always stock Wernersgruner Pils, a fine German pilsner at a rock bottom price. What was this new beer I saw there? Patriot’s Reserve American Lager?

For the two of you out there that might not know, I am a huge New England Patriots fan, and always have been. This beer, then, was perfect for our game. I assumed it was a Samuel Adams Boston Lager clone, and I was not wrong. It has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and is brewed by ABW in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I binged them, having never heard of them before, and got an address of 1209 Craft Lane-New Realm! Patriot’s Reserve American Lager is contact brewed at New Realm. You cannot argue with the price, as a six pack was just $7.99. But how would it stack up in flavor?

Patriot’s Reserve American Lager pours to bright amber color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of chewy caramel malt and fragrant earthy hops. Taking a sip, the beer is thick and chewy with caramel in the palate. It’s nicely balanced with gently bitter hops and earthy hop aroma.

If you’re a Boston Lager fan, you will not be disappointed with Patriot’s Reserve American Lager. I’ve been a Boston Lager fan for almost as long as I’ve been a Patriots fan, and I enjoyed Patriot’s Reserve. Truth be told, I will stick with my Boston Lager for the most part, as it is only $2 more a sic-pack where I shop abd only 50 cents more per six bottles if you buy a 12-pack. Still, if I am at Aldi I would definitely buy Patriot’s Reserve American Lager again. It’s a great tasting beer at a hard to beat price.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
