Allagash The Flyer Ale Brewed with Turmeric

Review Date 1/19/2026 By John Staradumsky
I was lost, and then I was found. Well, I wasn’t really, but my beer was. Specifically, my can of Allagash The Flyer Ale Brewed with Turmeric. I bought this beer in February of 2021 from Craftshack, as I had never had a beer made with Turmeric before. Somehow, it got stashed in a pile of other beers I have (don’t ask), and I recently found it and put it right in one of my beer fridges to make sure I would drink it, and soon.
Which I did, of course. Turmeric is a spice, and in my experience, spiced beers keep well, so I was hopeful despite the age. Turmeric is a root in the ginger family, and I have had ginger beers before, more than a few actually. One of the first and a favorite is Mount Desert Island Ginger from Atlantic Brewing of Bar Harbor, Maine.
Turmeric is similar to mustard in taste, at least to my taste, and I have had a beer brewed with mustard before: Wostyntje Mustard Ale. I’ve also had mustards made with beer, including a very delicious one with Sierra Nevada Porter as an ingredient.
Craftshack has this to say about Allagash The Flyer, which I assume they got from Allagash:
Brewing with fresh turmeric root lends all of the subtle aspects of fresh turmeric—its earthy notes and color—to this dry and refreshing ale.
Allagash The Flyer Ale Brewed with Turmeric has an alcohol content of 5.3% by volume and I paid $4.99 for my pint can. My can was stamped PACKAGED 12-23-20 and I drank it on January 8th of 2026. I do not believe that Allagash makes The Flyer anymore, but they do make Kurkuma Saison with Turmeric. Kurkuma is another name for turmeric.
Allagash The Flyer Ale Brewed with Turmeric pours to a hazy mustard blonde color with a towering head of fluffy white foam and a nose of pungent turmeric spice. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, crisp biscuity malty. It quickly pops though with pungent, mustardy turmeric spice notes. The beer finishes spicy dry and refreshing and has held up well over the years, but as I mentioned, spice beers usually do.
I will be looking for Allagash Kurkuma, and I promise if I find some I will drink it in a much more timely fashion.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
