Jigawatt West Coast Pale Ale

Review Date 1/20/2026 By John Staradumsky
What the hell is a jigawatt? That’s what Michael J Fox wanted to know in the film “Back to the Future”, and it’s what I want to know, too. Good old Doc Brown was talking about a gigawatt, but called it a jigawatt in the movie, and now comes New Jersey’s Alternate Ending brewery with their Jigawatt West Coast Pale Ale to honor that cinematic moment.
This is my first beer from Alternate Ending, but it will not be my last. I am sure I will come across more of their beer, because they have a LOT of it. Pages and pages of different brews, which you will see if you scroll through the beer section of their website. I had to go through a few pages just to find their listing for Jigawatt.
They say:
Crisp and dry, with a perfect balance of pine, citrus, and bitterness, Jigawatt delivers the classic West Coast punch but keeps things bright and refreshing.
Alternate Ending Jigawatt West Coast Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 5.2% by volume and is brewed with Cascade and El Dorado hops. I paid $5.49 for my pint can from Half Time, which is the only pricing I have. As you may know, I don’t evaluate pricing based off singles. My can is stamped WHAT THE HELL IS A JIGAWATT 07/AUG/2025.
Alternate Ending Jigawatt West Coast Pale Ale pours to a hazy orange amber color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of robust citrus fruit. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, and I might like more of that but for the style it is par for the course. It bursts immediately with bitter grapefruit rind and orange-tangerine flesh. Finishes dry with very bitter earthy herbal minty hops that linger long and dry.
Very tasty indeed, Alternate Ending Jigawatt West Coast Pale Ale delivers 1.21 gigawatts of flavor. Or Jigawatts. You be the judge.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
