Atlantic Brewing Company, Bar Harbor, Maine. 1998 Vintage, sampled with one year's aging.
From the label:
"Dating back over 1000 years, the bragget is a Barleywine made with equal portions of barley and honey. We decided to revive this historical style and brew it ourselves."
"Made with over 300 pounds of honey, Brother Adam's is the only commercially produced bragget of it's kind."
"Brewed in the fall and
cellared over the winter, this smooth and sweet ale is
not unlike a dessert wine. Like a wine, the bragget should be enjoyed slowly
with friends. It can be aged for years and matures to yield
surprising complexity."
Rich golden color.
Generous but short lived head formation, sweet caramel nose.
Rich, thick, sweet and syrupy palate is complex and delicious, sticky and
syrupy. Subtle apple fruitness, Belgian-like yeasty complexity
reminiscent of a dubbel, big alcohol warmth. A hybrid of mead and ale, and a truly
fantastic brew!
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
