Well my friends it’s two days before St. Patrick’s Day and I’m in the mood for a stout! Here’s a new one (for me anyway): Breckenridge Nitro Irish Stout aka Breckenridge Nitro Dry Irish Stout. The latter was the name on the label in 2017, but they seem to have shortened it for 2018. I enjoyed a glass at Taco Mac in Canton, so I got no label at all.
My glass (11 ounce, not a full mug grrrrr) was on a nitro pour, but you can also get this beer in 4-packs of 13.65 ounce cans with the little nitro widgets inside. It’s good to have beer at home; even I can’t be at Taco Mac all the time. Much as I would like to be.
From the website:
A classic old-world style with the mesmerizing magic of nitro and a colorful Colorado spirit.
Brewed with roasted Irish barley for a rich malty flavor, the memorable, sensory nature of Nitro Irish Stout nods to the welcoming adventure that our home state’s all about.
Breckenridge Nitro Irish Stout is the spring seasonal in the brewery’s nitro charged line. It has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume with 38 IBUs. It will run you $7.99 for 4 cans at Total Wine and I got an 11-ounce glass at Taco Mac for $6, though I think Breckenridge should ship bigger kegs so I can get a full mug for that price. An Irish Dry Stout does not justify a short pour.
My glass of Breckenridge Nitro Irish Stout arrived jet black in color with a towering creamy head from the nitro pour and chocolate and roast in the nose, both following through in the palate, too. The beer has very smooth body from the nitro, hints of coffee, a gentle sourness and a dry clean roasty finish. Thick layers of Brussels Lace clung to the sides of the glass as the liquid descended, too.
Excellent Irish Dry Stout with that wonderful nitro charged smoothness.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
