Tattooed Pumpkin India Pale Ale with Seasonal Spices

Pumpkin IPA? Get outta here! Is that India Pumpkin Ale? It could be! Tell the others! This is exactly what you get though in every can of Tattooed Pumpkin from the Bronx Brewery, which they call India Pale Ale Brewed with Pumpkin and Seasonal Spices on the label. I saw this beer available from Half Time Beverage and, being the consummate pumpkin beer geek that I am, it went straight into my cart.

Had I ever even had a pumpkin IPA before? I didn’t think so, so I checked. My listing of pumpkin beer reviews here on guruofbrew.com showed no such animal. I checked the IPA page; nothing there either. Finally, I checked my spreadsheet I’ve been keeping of over 8000 different bees tasted going all the way back to the early 80s.

Nothing, There. Either.

You win the prize Bronx Brewery! So, what do you say about Tattooed Pumpkin on your website?

Our full-bodied, fall-forward, pumpkin IPA is back! And with the conversion of the Up & Comers line to the Y-Series, we’ve promoted Tattooed Pumpkin to the seasonal roster to make room for even more beer styles and artist collaborations!

Hop Bill: Chinook, Crystal, Delta, Sultana – earthy, pine-y, slightly fruity
Malt Bill: Pilsner, 2-Row, Carapils, Flaked Oats, Flaked Wheat, Caramel (120), Victory, Chocolate
What Else? Pumpkin, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Clove, Allspice, Vanilla

Bronx Brewery Tattooed Pumpkin has an alcohol content of 7.5% by volume and I paid $5.99 for a can from Half Time. This is the only pricing information that I have. My can is marked BATCH A 2025 on the bottom.

Bronx Brewery Tattooed Pumpkin pours to a brilliant golden orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of citrus, pumpkin flesh and subtle spice. A thick layer of Brussels Lace forms on the sides of my glass and follows the liquid all the way to the bottom of the glass. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body and malty up front. It pops with fleshy gourdy pumpkin, caramel malts, citrusy grapefruit and resiny pine, and spicy nutmeg, clove and ginger. It’s quite bitter in the finish and drying with spice and works way better than I thought it would.

Remember that Thanksgiving when Uncle Doug spilled his IPA on your clise of pumpkin pie? Now you can live that moment again with Tattooed Pumpkin IPA. I think this works well on a classic resiny piney IPA, but would not on a hazy juicy one.

Well played, Bronx Brewery. Well played indeed.

 Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
