Ruby red color,
good head formation, fruity hop
nose. Substantial, chewy Crystal
malt body gently leads into a
resiny, quite bitter finish. This
beer
grows on you with every sip.
Highly recommended.
What prompted me to
try this beer? I was out
running errands this morning when
I heard a radio ad for fairly new
Massachusetts microbrew Buzzard's
Bay on an FM station (Shock!). I
hadn't heard this one before. They
went on about how their beer is
fresher because it's local, about
the ingredients used, about their
two new beers, Stock Ale
and Golden, etc. This is effective
advertising. They are giving the
consumer a REASON to buy their
product, to have it stick in their
mind and apart from all of the
other labels lining the store
shelves the next time they go to
the liquor store. It won't work
for everyone, but I'm sure their
sales will
benefit, if only for the short
term.
I still cling to the notion that labels, six-pack holders, and tap-knobs are not advertising, but rather identifiers. They don't reach out to the consumer and yell "Buy me!" as the above radio ad does.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
