This weekend, my wife and I decided to take a trip to Cape Cod, and since Hyannis is the home of the Cape's sole brewpub, we made it our destination. The atmosphere is pleasant with an expected nautical theme, and as it was a Monday evening I had no trouble finding a seat at the bar and getting a sampler. Third beer on the agenda was Lighthouse Lager, which proved to be the best beer so far. It was a crisp, malty brew with a nice hop bite in the finish. The beer was deep gold in color, and retained a solid head well through the pint I later ordered. The flyer I was given claims the lager is aged "more than twice the average for brewpubs", and the beer did indeed have a lager crispness to it which I have found lacking in some other brewpub lagers.
Any of the beers here are available for take-out in growlers at $10 each, but
must be ordered a day in advance. I brought home two of the Nantucket Red
myself. Besides their own beers, the pub carries other New England drafts,
which at my visit were Otter Creek Copper Ale, Ipswich Ale, Seadog Blonde
Ale, and Shipyard's Old Thumper. All in all, if you're on the Cape, I'd
say this pub is worth a stop.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
