Git-R-Done! That’s what Larry the Cable Guys says. It’s a famous tag line for him, and he has an album by the same name. Now, with Git-R-Done Cream Ale from the Carson’s Brewery of Evansville, Indiana. Beer historians will recall that Evansville was also the site of the classic Sterling brewery in days of yore.
Carson’s is a craft brewer, though cream ale is not a style normally favored by American craft brewers. It is a distinctly American style, however, and so fits in with the patriotic theme of Larry the Cable Guy. What is cream ale, you ask? Classically, the style is fermented at ale temperatures but then cold conditioned like a lager. In this respect they are similar to a German Kolsch, except that cream ales generally include an adjunct like corn-the Germans would never dream of that.
Carson’s Git-R-Done Cream Ale was released in March of 2017 and Taco Mac here in Georgia rolled it out on tap in June. I ordered up a mug on Father’s Day, because hey, I like a well done cream ale. The beer has an alcohol content of 4.2% by volume and I paid $7 for my 23-ounce mug.
That mug of Carson’s Git-R-Done Cream Ale arrived a pale yellow color with a fair-sized head of spritzy foam and a light biscuit malty nose. Taking a sip, I get a smooth light creamy malt palate, corn grits, and kind of a watery finish. And that’s about it here folks.
The beer was enjoyable enough ion a refreshing light bodied way, and I liked the malty flavors, though I would have liked more. I drank with gusto until there was only a small amount of beer left in my mug, and then with a firm resolve to Git-R-Done, I drank the last.
Would I buy it again? Probably not, truth be told. Carson’s Git-R-Done is more expensive and less tasty than my local cream ale, Jailhouse Alibi. It’s not much different than a Genny Cream Ale or a Little Kings, but much more expensive than those. Sorry, Larry. I did git it done anyway.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
