Taco Mac, you see, is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get. Today, for example, I got a Cherry Street Cherry Limeade Berliner Weisse. I had seen it pop up on the draft list on the Taco Mac website, and this was the first time I had been in since they had tapped it. Fruited Berliner Weisse is all the rage these days (you could just call it a fruited sour), so why not?
Cherry Street says on Instagram:
Yes, we just did that. Cherry Limeade Berliner Weisse in 16 oz 4 packs at The Taproom today! This is our only run of this beer, so do not delay. There will be limited distribution hitting next week. This is a 4% Tart German Wheat Ale with sweet and tart cherries and key lime juice added.
Sounds good to me. Cherry Street Cherry Limeade Berliner Weisse has 10 IBUs and I paid $6.75 for an 11-ounce glass. I have not seen it in cans.
My glass of Cherry Street Cherry Limeade Berliner Weisse arrived a beautiful reddish pink color with a thin frothy head and a smooth creamy cherry nose. Taking a sip, the beer has tart cherry fruit in the palate too, lime pulp and peel, and a nicely sour (but not puckering) finish. I like the way the juicy berry cherry notes meld with the citric, tart lime to really deliver the impression of a tasty cherry limeade.
Bring this one back for the dog days of summer, Cherry Street. This beer would be perfect in the oppressive Georgia heat. Is it a Berliner Weisse, a sour, or a fruit beer? Sour is a very generic term I don’t often like to use. You could call this any of the three, but I’ll go with the Berliner Weisse since that’s what Cherry Street calls it.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
