Friend of the Farmer Pumpkin Pie Porter

Review Date 10/4/2019  By John Staradumsky

Here’s an interesting beer that I sampled at Taco Mac recently: Cherry Street Friend of the Farmer Pumpkin Pie Porter. This is a fall seasonal from this Cumming, Georgia brewer, and while these is not much information on their website about the beer, they do say this about themselves:

Cherry Street Brewing Restaurant and Taproom is a distributing brewpub located in Cumming, Georgia, north of Atlanta by 30 miles. Based in Vickery Village in Forsyth County, we are in partnership with Rick Tanner’s Grille & Bar, a staple name in Greater Atlanta since 1986, combining classic eats with a mix of traditional and off-the-wall brews.

Cherry Street started out as a little garage operation in the foothills of the Rockies and quickly spread while building great community support.

Cherry Street Friend of the Farmer Pumpkin Pie Porter has an alcohol content of 7% by volume and I paid $7.51 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac. I have never seen this in cans or bottles; as far as I know it is only sold in draft form.

My mug of Cherry Street Friend of the Farmer Pumpkin Pie Porter arrived jet black in color with a thin cap of creamy tan foam and soft pumpkin spice and cocoa in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer has powdery cocoa in the palate, marshmallow vanilla, vegetal pumpkin flesh, subtle nutmeg and cinnamon spice, and a gently dry spice finish.

The spice is nice here, if on the subtle side. It’s a bit pricey, and I would like more pumpkin flavor, but I enjoyed it and would certainly buy it again.
