The Exorcist Dry Hopped Stout

Review Date 1/14/2022 By John Staradumsky

Itís Day Three of the 2021 Clown Shoes 12 Beers of Christmas Advent calendar, and here at we couldnít be happier! Thatís because today offers up a can of Clown Shoes The Exorcist Dry Hopped Stout, a new (to us anyway) beer. Wait a minute, why am I speaking of myself as we and us? Itís just me, your ever-loving Bruguru after all. Maybe I really *do* need an Excorcist!

Well, Iím about to pop one so here goes. There isnít any listing for this beer on the Clown Shoes website, even though they do have pages dedicated to new and archived brews. It has been for sale before outside the 12-pack, however, since I found a listing for it on There, they reference Clown Shoes as follows:

As in, nothing. They donít have a quote on the beer from the brewer as they usually do. What I can tell you, though, is that the beer has an alcohol content of 8% by volume. I paid $24.99 for my 12-pack of 12-ounce cans at Sherlockís, and my can is stamped Best By 01/31/22. I think iot could go way beyond that date, however.

Clown Shoes The Exorcist Dry Hopped Stout pours to a jet-black color with a thicky cauliflower tan head and a nose of dry roasted barley/malt and citrusy hops. Taking a sip, the beer is medium to full in body, deep roasty with char and intense roasted barely notes, citrusy piney resiny hop notes, and an extreme roasted barley malt finish. Like a parade of dark chocolate bars went through a citrus grove then a pine forest, picked out a Christmas tree, and it all blew up in my mouth.

Resiny and pine just permeate the dark roast here, and Iím just loving that. I would absolutely buy this beer again, and it just jumped to the top of the sampler for me. It will take a lot to dethrone it.

Last Yearís reigning Champion of the 12-pack was Hoppy Feet Black IPA, but to be fair, I didnít drink the Day Twelve Beer, Galactica Double IPA, until this year. Sometimes, life isnít fair.

The Exorcist Dry Hopped Stout is in a way akin to Hoppy Feet with the roast and resiny pine. The Exorcist, however, has more body.

This yearís ranking so far (based only upon my personal preference):

The Exorcist Dry Hopped Stout

Reindeer Games Bavarian Style India Pale Ale.

Space Cupcake India Pale Ale

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
