Lil Crispy Crisp Ale
Review Date 1/22/2022 By John Staradumsky
Hi there folks! As I type at you, it’s the 23rd of January, 2022. My how the time has gone by! Why only a month ago it was 2021. The weather has been reflective of the calendar these days, too, and when I go outside I have to say, it’s a Lil Crispy out there. In honor of that, I’m here to talk about Clown Shoes Lil Crispy Crisp Ale. See what I did there?
To be completely honest, I drank this beer and took my tasting notes on December 26th, but I am only now getting around to fleshing them out into a review. I got my can of Clown Shoes Lil Crispy in the 2021 Clown Shoes 12 Beers of Christmas Advent calendar, where it was the day four beer. This is not a new beer, however, although it was new to me.
On their website Clown Shoes says about this beer:
If your friends all jumped off a mountain, does that mean you’d do it? Yes, but please pack a parachute!
Yes, Clown Shoes can be weird at times. They also say:
Light-bodied and refreshing, Lil’ Crispy is a welcoming Crisp Ale that is approachable as they come. With subtle malt sweetness and smooth overall flavor, we crafted this ale for easy drinking enjoyment.
The following ingredients are listed:
Hops: Centennial, Simcoe, and Huell Melon
But what about the malt? Sigh. Clown Shoes Lil Crispy has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume. I paid $24.99 for my 12-pack of 12-ounce cans at Sherlock’s, and my can is stamped Best By 01/31/22.
Clown Shoes Lil Crispy Crisp Ale pours to a pale golden color with a medium sized head of foam and a nose of crisp malt citrusy hops. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body with crisp biscuit malt and a grassy, earthy herbal lemony bitter finish.
I would certainly drink this one again, and rated to style as a blonde ale, it hits the mark for me.
This year’s ranking so far (based only upon my personal preference):
The Exorcist Dry Hopped Stout
Reindeer Games Bavarian Style India Pale Ale.
Lil Crispy Crisp Ale
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
