Creature Comforts Winter IPA

Eat your heart out Euell Gibbons! Remember Euell dear reader? He was a naturalist and advocate of a diet full of wild foods in the 1060s and 1970s. He once famously asked in a Post Grapenuts commercial “Ever eat a pine tree? Many parts are edible.” I will confess I have never dined on a pine, but after enjoying Creature Comforts Winter IPA, I’m pretty sure I have drunk one.

I had been looking for this beer ever since I heard about it last month. As far as I can recall, this is the first winter seasonal/holiday brew I have come across from Creature Comforts of Athens, Georgia. I finally found it one fine Sunday morning at Publix, but it was 7:30 AM and you cannot buy beer until 12:30 PM on Sundays. Stupid Georgia law, and persecution by the religious if you ask me. I had to go back for it and I got there right at 12:30, a good thing I did as it was the last 6-pack they had.

Creature Comforts says:

Winter is a Cold Red IPA crafted for a season of festivities with family and friends. Bold and snappy with a piney aroma, this beer will keep you toasting all season long.

Creature Comforts Winter IPA has an alcohol content 7.1% by volume and I paid $11.69 for my six-pack, not a bad price at all these days. My cans are stamped 10/20/2025 02/20/2026. I fully intend to sock a can away for my annual Christmas in July celebration, so we shall see how the beer holds out that long.

Creature Comforts Winter IPA pours to a bright russet color with a towering fluffy white head of foam and a nose of grapefruit and resiny pine. Taking a sip, the beer is rich and malty up front with juicy berry stewed malts and a hint of caramel. It quickly pops with resiny pine and bitter grapefruit rind.

Just outstanding, I simply adore the sticky pine tar notes, and sipping the beer is akin to chewing a pinecone or perhaps more apropos this time of year, nibbling on a Christmas tree.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
