Here’s my second beer from North Carolina’s Currahee brewery, and I gotta say, I’m already a fan. Actually, I’ve had three beers from them now, having just enjoyed a can of Der Betrunken Oktoberfest Lager the other night. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s Currahee Frankenstark Belgian Style Golden Ale I’m here to tell you about today, and what a beautiful beer it is!
Frankenstark is an appropriate name for this year-round offering from Currahee. The “Franken” part alludes to the beer’s varying components, and the “stark” means strong, as we shall see shortly, it is.
From the website:
The result of the combination of ingredients from across the world, Frankenstark hits you with delicious rye and wheat flavors, accompanied by Belgian yeast notes. It's a smooth one, but remember, Frankenstark is a monster.
Currahee Frankenstark Belgian Style Golden Ale has an alcohol content of 8.2% by volume with 30 IBUs. I paid $9.49 for a six-pack at Target.
Currahee Frankenstark Belgian Style Golden Ale pours to a golden straw color with a light creamy head and a delightful spicy-yeasty nose. Taking a sip, the beer is wonderfully bright and zesty up front with biscuit malt and tart wheat, then yeasty funk and lots of spicy clove and white pepper. It’s spicy dry in the finish and really a wonderful brew. Although I didn’t seem to pick up the rye so much, one sip of this beer made me want another, and another.
Just lovely, folks.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
