Oh look! Dry County Double County IPA is on tap at Taco Mac! Or at least, it was when I was there on April 19th. This was voted best beer at the Taco Mac Secret Stash Bash I attended in March, though I only tasted it at the end of the night, shortly before it was announced as winner. By that time my palate was a bit fatigued, so I didn’t take any notes.
The night I enjoyed my mug of Dry County Double County IPA I got a ticket for an entry to win a cooler. I didn’t win the cooler, but everybody is a winner when they drink Double County IPA.
Dry County does not have any information on its website about Double County IPA. Taco Mac pegs it at 8.5% by volume. I paid $7.56 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac, and while that is a little higher than normal, it’s important to note this is a full mug pour. Scofflaw (another Georgia brewer) POG Basement DIPA was also on tap. It was 1% lower inn ABV, came in an 11 ounce glass, and was running $7.50 for an 11-ounce glass. That’s 50 cents more than the pint price for Dry County Double IPA.
My mug of Dry County Double County IPA arrived a beautiful orange anber color with a moderate head of foam and malty and earthy notes in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer is (wow!) packed with a full chewy, toasty caramel maltiness, with hints of pine, citrus, grassy herbal notes and a surprisingly balanced bitter finish.
I love the malts here (remember malt in IPA?), and the fact $7.56 gets you a full mug, the hops are delightfully citrusy and piney and a tad earthy. I like all of that. I’ll be looking for this one again, if I can find it.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
