Hello friends! Today is a special day indeed. A little background before we get started. I’ve been a beer geek for nigh on 37 years now, and these days, rare is the day I come upon something I haven’t experienced before. Today is that day. My friends, I give you Sour Me Unicorn Farts Glittered Sour Ale from the DuClaw Brewing Company of Baltimore, Maryland.

You heard that right. Sour Me Unicorn Farts Glittered Sour Ale. Yes friends, this is the first beer I’ve ever tasted brewed with edible glitter. Think of is sort of like Goldschlager, but as a beer.

Pony up for a taste of this glittered sour ale brewed with a trio of real fruits ,fruity cereal, & a swirl of edible glitter.  Based on the flavor profile of the famous “Uniforn Farts” doughnut made with fruity cereal, this beer is medium-bodied with big fruit notes, slight tartness, plus a hint of malty biscuit.  A fantastical collaboration between DuClaw Brewing Company & Diablo Donuts.

Sour Me Unicorn Farts Glittered Sour Ale has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume with 10 IBUs. It runs $13.49 a 4-pack of pint cans here in Georgia.

Sour Me Unicorn Farts Glittered Sour Ale pours to a greenish yellow color with a thick fluffy white head. Poking my nose up to the glass, I decided to…smell Unicorn Farts. A nose of sour green granny smith apples was what they smell like. I saw no glitter in my glass, but the can label advised it may settle, and advises swirling or inverting the can before decanting. That can invite unwanted developments, so I had reserved about a third of the contents in the can and gently swirled before adding to my glass. At which point, I had a super sparkly day!

Taking a sip, the beer is very sour indeed with more of the puckering green apple flavor. There’s a bit of crackery wheat underneath and subtle fruity pebble notes, without most of the sweetness the cereal implies. Mostly green apple was the fruit I got, though. The beer finishes quite sour, and if you like that (I do) then this is a fun beer indeed.

Here’s the thing, though. I was a little less than impressed with this beer in the final analysis. The glitter was a one time fun gimmick for me, but that won’t carry the beer. It seemed rather one-dimensional with the sour apple notes, and lacked the fruity cereal or fruit notes in any great measure. Those are said to be the hallmark of the beer, as with the donut whose name it borrows. I am always disappointed when a promised theme is found to be lacking.

Not really a beer I would buy again, except maybe to see if I got an off can.
