As I type, I have recently picked up the 2025 edition of the Biergarten Collection, which includes a double bock by Eibauer under the St. M brand: St. M Dunkel Bock. My introduction to Eibau beers came with last year's Biergarten collection, but now they are seemingly everywhere. A number of them under the Eibau brand in this year's Biergarten collection, but also under the St. M label too. Visting Helen for Oktoberfest this year, I found more beers brewed by Eibauer, under their own label, Berliner Geschichte, and Bismarkhbrau. Indeed, they also have a doppelbock under each of those labels which seem to be the same beer under different packaging. This may be I have come across a German brewer catering to tickers. There you go.

The Eibauer website is not the best and this beer is not listed there. The Webster Barnes website for the 2025 box says this about the brewery:

Even today, the St. Marienthaler Klosterbräu is a very special monastery beer. On behalf of the St. Marienthal Monastery, it is brewed according to the old, traditional monastery recipe of the Cistercian monastery by the private brewery Eibau i. Sa. And even with the first sip, you can feel: This is a beer that brings old times back to life.

Eibauer St. M Dunkel Bock has an alcohol content of 6.7% by volume according to my can label and I paid $2.50 for it ($59.95 for the collection divided by 24). That is an amazing deal. My can was stamped

St M Dunkel Bock pours to a dark mahogany color with a thick creamy tan head and a nose of thick chewy dark nutty malt. Taking a sip the beer is thick and full in body with notes of molasses and toasted nuts. It bursts with toasty nutty melanoidin Munich malt decoction goodness, and ends with a  more than balanced grassy bitterness. It's pretty much identical to the Eibauer Dunkler Bock I got in last year's box.

Judged to style and hedonistically, I give this one 4.5 stars out of five. It really is a wonderful doppelbock, my favorite style of beer. Factor in the rock bottom price and I am bumping it up to a full 5 rating. This is a beer I would love to buy a 4-pack of, even if the price was higher.
