Der Kletterer Red Lager
Review Date 6/15/2025 By John Staradumsky
Are you a climber? A social climber maybe? Or an economic climber? Most of us are climbing some kind of ladder in life, moving up the rungs slowly but surely in a professional or personal sense. Maybe you’re even a mountain climber. If you are a climber of any sort, I’m here to tell you that Germany’s Eichbaum brewery has a beer for you: Der Kletterer Red Lager, Kletterer being, you guessed it, German for climber.
This is another beer I got last fall in the Biergarten Collection box of German brews I bought at Costco. There were actually several Eichbaum beers in the box. The brewery describes them selves thusly on their website:
Willkommen in unserer Brauerei – wir sind #fürEICHda
Mit unserer Gründung im Jahr 1679 sind wir stolz, Mannheims ältestes Industrieunternehmen zu sein, und waren schon immer im Mannheimer Stadtgebiet angesiedelt – im schönen Stadtteil Wohlgelegen.
Which means if you don’t speak German:
Welcome to our brewery – we are #hereforyou. With our founding in 1679, we are proud to be Mannheim's oldest industrial company and have always been located in the Mannheim urban area – in the beautiful district of Wohlgelegen.
Eichbaum Der Kletterer Red Lager has an alcohol content of 5.7% by volume and I paid $2.50 for my can ($59.95 for the collection divided by 24). My can is stamped 10.07 2025 on the bottom.
Eichbaum Der Kletterer Red Lager Red Lager pours to a dark crimson color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of caramel and toasted malts. Taking a sip, the beer is malty, very malty with berry stewed malts, caramel, toasted bread, toffee and a subtle note of overripe McIntosh apples. It’s nutty too and finishes balanced with a gentle kiss of hops but still on the sweet side.
A beer I would drink again for sure.
Other beers in this collection:
Rittmayer Hallendorf 1422 Festbier
Irlbacher Premium Vollbier Hell
Klosterbrau Neuzeller Anas Geheimnisse
Klosterbrauerei Neuzeller Traditions Gebräu Imperial Porter
Irlbacher Premium Weihnachts Festbier
Eichbaum Perfekte Zeit Wheat Pale Ale
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
