Möbius American Porter

American porter! What the hell is that? I’m sure I don’t know. The original porters were, of course, brewed in London in the early 1700s. As the story goes, it was a blend of stout and brown ale and was popular with, you guessed it, porters. Today, most porters are either in the brown or robust category, with the latter being more roasty and bold than the former.

Then too, there are imperial porters, which are a step up from robust and are higher in alcohol to boot. That’s how I peg Equilibrium Möbius American Porter stylistically, as an imperial porter, although they call it an American porter. Either way, it’s bold, flavorful, and delicious.

Equilibrium claims the tag line “beer balanced by science”, so it’s no surprise they would feature a beer named for 19th century astronomer and mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius. Brownie points for that. They say about the beer on the can label:

Our rich and creamy American porter boasts a velvety mouthfeel and ribbon of drinkability. Simple, clean and elegant, Möbius loops you right into your next sip.

Equilibrium Möbius American Porter has an alcohol content of 7% by volume and I paid $6.99 for my pint can from Half Time. Total Wine sells it for $21.99 a 4-pack at their Columbia, South Carolina location.

Equilibrium Möbius American Porter pours to a jet-black color with a light creamy tan head of foam and a nose of robust roasted malt. Taking a sip, the beer is medium to full in body, about right for an imperial porter. It’s rich and roasty, and pops with char. Dark chocolate and black coffee notes glide over the tongue, and the beer finishes with a rich intense roastiness.

Definitely a rebuy for me, I highly recommend it for you as well.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
