This is the second beer style produced by the Olde Wyndham Brewery in Willimantic, CT, and so far they're running two for two. This is not a light bodied example of the style, it's actually a robust malty brew with an impressive bitter hop finish. I enjoyed a sample of this brew straight from the bright beer tank at the brewery Saturday, which is located in an old mill complex in Willimantic. The brewery was impressive for a year old micro, complete with two towering grain silos, five sparkling seventy-barrel fermenters, and a small bottling line.
Frog and Hound Cream Ale is goldish orange in color with good carbonation and a malty-fruity nose. The palate is extremely crisp with a wonderful fresh malt character which blends perfectly with a big citric fruitiness and climaxing with a lingering Fuggles and Goldings finish. A delicious refreshing brew, packed with flavor and very drinkable. A perfect compliment to spicy foods and pasta.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
