Ginormous MK9 Imperial IPA

Review Date 12/18/2020/2020   By John Staradumsky

Back in early May, I got a delivery from Craftshack, and I’ve drunk them all by now-save for one. Yes, friends, a half-liter bottle of Gigantic Ginormous MK9 Imperial IPA got ensconced in my office/guest room beer fridge, and I somehow never drank it until now. It’s December, Christmastime as I type, and I was thinking of the Shogun Warriors we got one year for Christmas. The guy on the label of Ginormous MK9 looks kind of like Mazinga-so I sought out my bottle to drink it.

And you know, I did, or I would not be here now telling you about it. Here’s Gigantic to tell you a little about the beer and the series.

In the search for a hoppier, better equipped Ginormous we are launching an ever-changing series of Ginormous Imperial IPAs developed at our secret testing facility deep in S.E. Portland. For this ninth in the series we focus on the bright citrus from Amarillo and Cascade hops.

The fact that this release of Ginormous is brewed with Amarillos and Cascades excites me, and lends it to a little age, especially well stored in ym beer fridge the entire time. Gigantic Ginormous MK9 Imperial IPA has an alcohol content of 8% by volume, and I paid $8.25 for my bottle from Craftshack. Total Wine sells it for $6.49 a bottle, though not in Georgia.

Gigantic Ginormous MK9 Imperial IPA pours to a hazy yellow color with a towering white head of creamy foam and a big heady aroma of citrus and pine. Taking a sip, the beer is full in body with chewy caramel malt, resiny pine tar, and juicy citrus grapefruit flesh and peel. It fnishes warm with alcohol and slightly bitter. Not quite as malty as classic American Imperial IPAs, but close, and I really love the hops here.

Absolutely would buy this one again. You can stop the series here, Gigantic. This one’s a keeper.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
