Goat Island Mango Weiss

Review Date 10/14/2024 By John Staradumsky

Here’s my first review (though not my first beer ever) from the Goat Island Brewing Company of Cullman, Alabama: Mango Weiss Mango Wheat Beer. I’ll confess it was the label that lured me in, as I expect was the brewer’s attention, what with it’s distinct Miami Vice-style graphics and art. Extra credit if you know the correct German pronunciation for “Weiss” is the same as the English word Vice.

I could not find a listing for this beer on the brewery website, but the can label offers this description:

The sweet tropical scent of mango permeates this hazy, golden ale. A bright, refreshing wheat beer that will keep you coming back for more!

Goat Island Mango Weiss has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume and Total Wine, where I bought it, sells it for $11.99 a six-pack. My can says BORN ON 09/05/20, which is odd because I bought it in August of 2024. It might be a year old, but it did not taste four years old.

Goat Island Mango Weiss pours to a hazy orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of robust tropical fruit. Taking a sip, the beer has a crisp American wheat backbone and is a bit meaty wheaty, but has no clove or banana. It's a little crackery and very tropical fruity with lush notes of mango and a gently sweet finish.

A great sipping beer on a warm early October evening.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
