The name of the beer I’m here to talk about is on the glass. Isn’t that neat? Hi, I’m John and I’m a beer glass addict. I love collecting beer glasses, been doing it for a number of years now. I have somewhere around 900, and I’d have a lot more if I hadn’t lost a lot moving from Rhode Island to Georgia. I like to glass match when I’m drinking a beer. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, the glass label exactly matches the beer brand and style (like tonight). If I can’t do that, I’ll match the brewery at least or, failing that, at least try to get a glass from the same state. Hey, I can’t have a glass for every brewery, though I’m trying. Believe me, I’m trying.
Living so close to Taco Mac sure helps. Thursday nights are pint glass nights, and if you order one of the beers of the month, you get logo glass, while supplies last. Tonight I ordered a Golden Road Wolf Pup Session IPA. With it, I got a Wolf Pup Session IPA glass, tonight’s glass. I am not the biggest fan of “session IPAs” (I like malt in my beer), but I enjoy them once and a while, especially in the warmer weather.
Golden Road says on their website:
Hoppy and refreshing, Wolf Pup is our riff on a Session IPA. Highly drinkable with a wildly aromatic tropical and citrus character, it’s the perfect companion to keep on sippin’ for those long, sunny days. Brewed & Canned in Los Angeles & Fairfield, CA.
Ingredients, also from their website:
Malts: 2-Row, Maris Otter, Malted Rye, Dextrin
Hops: Bravo, Simcoe, Chinook, Mosaic,
Ekuanot, Galaxy
Golden Road Wolf Pup Session IPA has an alcohol content of 4.5% by volume with 45 IBUs. I paid $6.84 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac, a bit high, but I did get a free glass, so I really can’t complain. Then too, the beer runs a very reasonable $8.99 a six-pack in cans at Total Wine.
My mug of Golden Road Wolf Pup Session IPA arrived a hazy straw color with a medium head of foam and pineapple and mango in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer offered thin malt in the palate, followed by more mango and pineapple with some grapefruit citrus rind, then a long dry grassy bitter finish.
About average as these fruit salad beers go but it did serve nicely to wash down my Buffalo wings.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
