Some people are creatures of habit. They get up at the same time each day, go to bed each night on an equally punctual basis and-worst of all-drink one and only one brand of beer. Horrifying, I know, but it’s true. Why would you do that? You wouldn’t eat the same food for every meal, so why be so unoriginal with your choice of brew? For my part, I prefer to be all over the place in my gustatory pleasures, and today that sense of adventure has brought me to a mug of Good People Pale Ale.
To be sure, I’ve enjoyed beers from Alabama’s Good People brewing before. A few years ago, I picked up several cans of their beer in Nashville, but they only recently became available in Georgia. For October of 2017, Good People beers are featured as beer of the month at Taco Mac locations throughout Georgia. Good People Pale Ale is a classic American pale ale brewed with classic West Coast hops, 3 of the 4Cs are used.
From the website:
Our flagship brew balances the subtle caramel tones of 2-Row & 5 Specialty Malts with just the right amount of hops. Complex and versatile, it’s good anytime, anywhere for any occasion.
Ingredients from the website:
Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Chinook
Malts: 2-Row and 5 Specialty Malts
Yeast: California Ale
Good People Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 5.8% by volume with 38 IBUs. I paid $5.75 for a 23-ounce mug, and that came with a free logo glass to boot. I have seen it in Target for $9.49 a six-pack.
My mug of Good People Pale Ale arrived a bright orange amber in color with a medium sized layer of creamy foam head and a bold fruity citrus aroma. Taking a sip, the beer has a firm caramel malt body appropriate to the style, with hints of pear from the yeast and zesty grapefruit citrus fruit from the hops, all leading into a dry bitter finish.
Just a lovely drinkable pale ale, and lest you think my wandering palate denies me the pleasure of revisiting a beer I’ve enjoyed, you should know I’m already salivating over a mug of Good People IPA to enjoy on my next visit to Taco Mac, that being the first Good People beer to pass these lips.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
