Saturhaze! In the park! I think it was the Fourth of July! OK, it wasn’t the Fourth of July, I actually drank my can of Green Flash Saturhaze EZY HZY IPA on July 25^th. Which was a Sunday. This is the first Green Flash brew I have enjoyed since 2019, when I got a crowler of Soul Style IPA from Stout’s. Green Flash had undergone a huge expansion, building a new brewery out here on the East Coast before it all fell apart circa 2018 and 2019.

Slowly, however, Green Flash is crawling back from the brink of the abyss. They are back distributing to parts of the east coast, though I have not seen their beers in Georgia yet. I did see Saturhaze available on Craftshack.com, though, and decided to get a can.

Part Session IPA, part hazy IPA is the Frankenstein of beers. It says “EZY HZY” on the can, so you get the idea. Here’s what Green Flash says about the beer from the can label:

A laid-back 4.2% Hazy India Pale Ale with tropical and citrus aromas.

Part legend, part luck, the elusive green flash is a San Diego sensation. But to us, it's more than a burst of brilliant green light as the sun sets into the sea- it's a magical moment that signals the end of an extraordinary day and the start of an epic night on the horizon.

Green Flash Saturhaze EZY HZY IPA has an alcohol content of 4.2% by volume with 20 IBUs. I paid $2.78 for my can from Craftshack, and Total Wine sells it for $19.49 a 12-pack-but not in Georgia. My can is stamped PKGD 02/04/21.

Green Flash Saturhaze EZY HZY IPA pours to a light hazy yellow color with a thick fizzy head and a juicy citrus and pineapple nose. Taking a sip, the beer is very light in body, too much so for me, with light citrus rind pulp and a moderate juiciness. It finishes with more gently bitter grapefruit zest in the finish and is a pleasant enough warm weather beer, but not something I think I would buy again. It’s just too light in body and flavor for me, like seltzer water mixed with grapefruit juice.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
