Harpoon UFO Georgia Peach

Review Date 5/29/2018   By John Staradumsky

Old home, meet new home! New home, meet old home! That sums up Harpoon UFO Georgia Peach for me. I was born in Rhode Island, you see, lived in Massachusetts until I was 5 years old, then lived in Rhode Island until I was 37. In 2001, I moved to Georgia, and I’ve been ever since.

Like me, Harpoon UFO Georgia Peach is part New England, part Georgia. Unlike me, however, Harpoon UFO Georgia Peach is sold in six-packs of convenient 12-ounce cans. It’s only sold in Georgia, too-Harpoon brewed it solely for distribution here. I first heard about it when Taco Mac announced a special tapping of the beer and snapped up the last six-pack of cans at Target a few days later.

Harpoon says:

There’s nothing sweeter than Georgia peaches… which is why we were inspired to brew a beer just for you, Georgia! Refreshing with the right touch of sweetness, this easy-drinking and flavorful hefeweizen will make you think you just picked this beer right from your favorite peach tree.

Harpoon UFO Georgia Peach has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume with 10 IBUs. I paid $9.49 a six-pack at Target ($4.69 for a 23-ounce draft mug at Taco Mac). If you don’t already know, UFO stands for Unfiltered Offering.

Harpoon UFO Georgia Peach pours to a hazy peach color with a thick fizzy head that fades almost as quickly as it forms. Taking a sip, the beer has a luscious fresh peach nose; taking a sip reveals light crackery wheat with more delicious, juicy peach flavors. The beer really is like taking a bite out of a freshly picked peach, although a surprising hit of mildly bitter grassy hops keeps the beer from being sweet or cloying.

What a wonderful refresher for the warm summer weather here in Georgia with the local flavor of fresh peaches. I would certainly buy this one again and, tomorrow night at Taco Mac, I plan to do just that.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
