Hey! What are you doing tonight? I’ll tell you what I’m doing, I’m getting destroyed. That’s right, I’m getting destroyed with a can of Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged D.O.R.I.S. the Destroyer Double Imperial Stout, which Akron, Ohio’s Hoppin’ Frog calls a Stout Aged in Whiskey Barrels.

The first time I got destroyed was with a bottle of the non-barrel aged version of D.O.R.I.S back in 2016. The first time I enjoyed the barrel aged version was in mid-March of 2023, on tap at Truck and Tap in Woodstock, Georgia. I recorded these notes then:

Last beer of my birthday pub crawl and the best without doubt. Coffee, licorice, dark chocolate, wood, and lots of booze. This was amazing.

When I enjoyed the straight version in 2016, I aged the bottle for four years, and the can of Barrel Aged D.O.R.I.S. I am here to speak of today was also aged, though I do not know how long. It was stamped on the bottom Best by APR-22-2025. I bought it at Sherlock’s in Kennesaw but do not remember how much I paid for it. The beer has an alcohol content of 10.5% by volume.

Tasting Notes

Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged D.O.R.I.S. the Destroyer Double Imperial Stout pours to a jet-black color with a medium tan head and a nose of dark chocolate and boozy Scotch whiskey. Taking a sip, the beer is full in body, again rich with smooth chocolate notes. It’s woody, so much so I get splinters in my tongue. With age I am not getting the licorice but the coffee is here, some dark fruit and in the finish, lots of booze.

Value & Verdict

Just outstanding, but Hoppin’ Frog is known for its outstanding beers. I will be sure to look for more of this special treat, and I look forward to getting destroyed again.

Buy It Again? Yes, I would.
