I’m drinking solo tonight. That’s a little joke, you see. The beer ion front of me at the moment is Java the Stout, a coffee stout from Jackie O’s brewery of Athens, Ohio. Hence, the (Han) solo line. I mean, I hope you got it before I explained it, but just in case, there it is. I’ve been wanting to try this beer for a long time. I love beer, and I love Star Wars. So there you go. It’s not sold in Georgia, but I snagged a can from Craftshack online beer store. Jackie O’s says: A caramel centered stout accentuated by Ridge Runner coffee. Instead of simply adding coffee to a stout, we build a stout around the coffee. Course ground coffee beans are added in the conditioning tank. The beans add a robust roasted character and turn this stout fully opaque. Our best selling seasonal since 2008! Jackie O’s Java the Stout has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume. I paid $4.49 for my can from Craftshack, I don’t know what it runs in stores. Mine was CANNED 1-02-20. Ingredients from the website: HOPS WILLAMETTE MALTS 2-ROW/CARA PILS/CHOCOLATE MALT/MUNICH/SPECIAL B/WHITE WHEAT BLACK MALT NORTHERN BREWER/ROASTED BARLEY OTHER INGREDIENTS LACTOSE SUGAR That’s an impressive malt bill right there. Jackie O’s Java the Stout pours to a jet-black color with a thick creamy tan head and a rich creamy chocolate and coffee nose. Taking a sip, the beer is rich and creamy in body with a full lush mouthfeel that slides luxuriously over the tongue. There’s a hint of caramel, milk chocolate, and roasty black coffee. It finishes roasty bitter and very satisfying. Delicious! I have had more coffeeish coffee beers, but I do love the way all the flavors work together so wonderfully here, especially with the caramel. Java the Stout is super creamy from the lactose (have I said creamy enough in this review?). I would love to buy this one again. And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box. *Pricing data accurate at time of review or latest update. For reference only, based on actual price paid by reviewer.
