Bell's Tropical Hopslam Ale

Review Date 11/2/2025 By John Staradumsky

Sometimes, it ain’t easy being me. I’ve had a can of Bell’s Tropical Hopslam in my beer fridge for a few months now, but I could not drink it. You’re probably wondering, “But bruguru, you guru of brew you, why couldn’t you drink the can of Bell’s Tropical Hopslam you’ve had in your beer fridge foir a few months now?”

I’m glad you asked that question! The reason is because I could not find my Hopslam glass. Mind you, I do have a few other Bell’s glasses, and I know where they are. Knowing that I have a Hopslam glass, though, I have to drink Hopslam in it. It’s my OCD, you see. And I know. First world problems.

Anyway, as you can also see from my photo, I finally found my glass, so here we are. Bell’s says:

Hopslam goes on vacation with a new, experimental hop bill. Our brewers picked a unique blend of hops to lend notes of pineapple, mango, and passionfruit in this fun twist on our iconic DIPA. Available for a limited time only. Still miss the original recipe Hopslam? Never fear, OG Hopslam will be back in January!

They also say:

Ingredients: Water, Malt, Hops

Seriously Bell’s? I mean, we knew that. But what varieties of malt and hops? Anyway, if you are interested in my review of the classic Hopslam, follow the link.

Bell’s Tropical Hopslam has an alcohol content of 9% by volume and I paid $4.49 for my single pint can at Total Wine, where it was selling for $12.99 a 4-pack of same. My can is stamped BBO 09/07/25 and I drank it on 10/26/2025, so just a bit after that. It seemed no worse for the wear.

Bell’s Tropical Hopslam pours to a bright orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of tropical pineapple and citrus fruits. Taking a sip the beer is light to medium in body, about what I expect from the style. It’s chock full of pineapple and mango for the tropical part, but there is citrus tangerine flesh and bitter rind too. The beer finishes bitter and I like that and warm with alcohol.

I found this to be another winner from Bell’s, a tasy refreshing Double IPA, although I still prefer the original.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
