New brewery alert! New brewery for me, anyway. Thanks to the magic of beer trading, I got a bottle of Prairie Artisan Ales Birra, a product of the fine folks at Krebs Brewing Company from Krebs, Oklahoma. Krebs is German for crabs and cancer, though what that has to do with beer I couldn’t tell you. I just thought I’d throw that out there for you, as one of the many services we provide here at Bruguru.com.
A beer from Krebs is the second I’ve had from an Oklahoma craft brewer, a state not normally known for craft brewing (Choc Brewing being the other). That’s changing, though and I’m glad to say I’ve enjoyed the beer I’ve tried from both of these companies. Krebs Prairie Artisan Ales line comes highly recommended, so I was anxious to try it.
Krebs says about it, quite simply:
Birra is a light, sessionable farmhouse ale. It is crisp with notes of black pepper and orange and goes perfectly with food.
My bottle says “Made by people who truly care. From Oklahoma with love”. Prairie Birra has an alcohol content of 4.5% by volume and 18 IBUs.
Prairie Artisan Ales Birra pours to a pale straw color with a thick, nay towering head of unruly rocky foam and an enticing nose of zesty lemon and spice. Taking a sip, the beer has a light, very refreshing body with wheat tartness, zesty citrus flavors as the nose promised and abundant spice (coriander comes to mind). It’s very drinkable indeed, and the tart spicy dry finish makes it even more so.
I didn’t get the pepper so much here, but definitely got the citrus, and I have to say this light bodied, spicy and very delicious truly satisfies. It’s a great brew to pair with poultry or fish, or as an aperitif before dinner.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
