Prairie Lil' Dunk

How’s about a Lil’ Dunk? I know I was ready for one. I was at Taco Mac on a Sunday night watching the New England Patriots play the Baltimore Ravens (Pats win!), and my glass was empty. That situation being simply intolerable, I ordered a Prairie Lil’ Dunk. I will confess I did not know much about the beer, except that I had heard good things about it, and it was after all, Prairie.

That did not take long to change. As soon as I lifted the beer to my nose, the milk and cookies theme became readily apparent to me. How apropos, too, just a few days before Christmas.

Prairie describes the beer as follows:

Supremely enjoyable Stout with Oreos, Vanilla, and Marshmallow

Prairie Lil’ Dunk is brewed with lactose and has an alcohol content of 9.5% by volume. I paid $9 for an 11-ounce glass at Taco Mac. Total Wine sells it for $17.99 a 4-pack of 12-ounce cans in their Avon, Indiana store.

Prairie Lil’ Dunk pours to a jet-black color with a light creamy tan head and a nose of chocolate and vanilla. Taking a sip the beer is medium to full in body and immediately suggestive of an Orea cookie and milk. The dark sweet chocolate matches the cookie dead on, and the vanilla suggests the filling and milk. The beer finishes warming with alcohol and balanced.

They certainly nailed the Oreos and milk theme dead on. On its own merits, I would give this a 4.5 for style (spiced imperial stout), accuracy to theme and hedonistic enjoyment. As with most Prairie beers, it is overpriced, especially in cans. A half star off for that, although I would certainly buy it again.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
