Tonight’s story all started way back in early March of 2020. I was sitting at the bar at Taco Mac in Canton, enjoying a mug of Jailhouse Lush Lemons sour ale, when I received some disturbing news. Jailhouse was going out of business! My favorite Georgia brewery would be no more, and while I knew that the Jailhouse beer I was drinking would not be my last (I had a few more at home), I knew my supply would one day be depleted. How sad a day that would be, when I drank my last.

Or would I? Jailhouse remains no more, and in retrospect given the way the rest of 2020 turned out, maybe they were prescient in shutting down before the storm hit. Still, just the other day I was at Total Wine in Kennesaw and saw it: Line Creek Jailhouse Breakout Stout! The Jailhouse logo on the can immediately caught my attention, and at first I thought this was a very old beer. It was not.

Line Creek calls this a GLENN GOLDEN/JAILHOUSE COLLAB, and of course Glenn Golden was the original brewer and entrepreneur at Jailhouse. The beer has an alcohol content of 8% by volume, just like the original, and has 65 IBUs, though I am not sure what that value was for the original. I bought a single and have no 4-pack pricing for the pint cans.

Line Creek Jailhouse Breakout Stout pours to a jet-black color with a thick creamy tan head and a decadent nose of dark chocolate and roast. Taking a sip, the beer is medium to full in body with rich dark chocolate, licorice, sharp roastiness, and a long dry roasty bitterness.

Jailhouse is back! And in a big way. Thanks Line Creek for bringing back this wonderful beer, you just shot up the ranks on my list of favorite Georgia breweries!
