Live Oak Pilz
Review Date 11/30/2024 By John Staradumsky
Time for another great beer from Live Oak Brewing of Austin, Texas: Live Oak Pilz. I have been impressed with every beer I have tasted from these fgolks,a nd this one is no exception. Here’s what the brewery says about the beer:
Pilz is a classic Bohemian-style golden Pilsner, decoction-mashed with a single heirloom variety Moravian malt.
Premium Saaz hops combine to produce a clean, crisp pilsner with complex malt flavor and spicy hop bitterness and aroma.
This is Austin’s Original Pilsner!
The decoction mashing really makes a difference, and you can tell that here with this delicious brew. It’s an authentic Czech style pilsner and I was loving it from the very first sip.
Live Oak Pilz has an alcohol content of 4.7% by volume with 36 IBUs. I paid $3.99 for a 12-ounce can from Half Time. Total Wine sells it for $10.99 a 6-pack and $19,99 a 12-pack in The Woodlands, Texas. My can is stamped 08.05.2024, which I assume is a best by date. I drank mine in November, a bit past that, and it was no worse for the wear.
Live Oak Pilz pours to a pale bright golden color with a moderate fluffy white head and a nose of crisp biscuity malt and earthy hops. Taking a sip, the beer is as crisp biscuity as the nose promised, and a bit bready too. A sharp earthy herbal hop aroma quickly emerges, and the beer finishes with a long dry lingering bitter finish.
Another winner from Live Oak.
Glad I tried it?
