Power Hammer Baltic-style Porter

New brewery alert! For me anyway. Yes friends, Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Power Hammer is my first ever beer from this Washougal, Washington brewery. But will it be my last? I sure hope not. Truth be told, it was the style of this beer that enticed me to buy it: a Baltic-style Porter, Strong Dark Lager as the brewery puts it.

But, you ask, why do I hope this will not be my last Logsdon beer? Lets start with a little brewery history, from the Logsdon website:

Founded in 2009 by David Logsdon and Charles Porter, Logsdon Farmhouse Ales (LFA) brewed its first beer in 2011 with a 10 barrel system in Hood River, Oregon….

In August 2018, LFA expanded operations to the west end of the Columbia River Gorge in Washougal, Washington. The downtown Washougal facility includes a 15-barrel brew house system. With the additional tank space and newer equipment, LFA began producing contemporary and classic ales and lagers in styles from around the world, as well as farmhouse-style ales year round in Washougal. After some time operating both facilities, operations in Hood River ceased in 2019.

So, the brewery started out in Oregon in 2011, moved to Washougal in 2018, and ended production in 2019-just in time for Covid to hit. On their website front page, there is a disclaimer that say: online sales paused as of May 8th. Logsdon brewery & tasting room Opening soon in Portland! (Washougal, WA Brewery closed)

That is a lot of transition in just the space of a decade. I do hope they thrive in Portland, and that I get the chance to enjoy more of their beer. If Power Hammer Baltic-style Porter is any indication of the quality of their beer, you are going to want to hope to find some, too.

Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Power Hammer Baltic-style Porter has an alcohol content of 8% by volume and I paid $5.94 for my can from Craftshack. That is the only pricing information I have. My can is stamped CANNED ON 12/29/20 BATCH 110 ITS HAMMERTIME. I drank it on May 5th, 2022.

Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Power Hammer Baltic-style Porter pours to a jet-black color with a towering head of creamy tan foam and a nose of chocolate and roasted malt. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, appropriate to the style. It is rich and roasty and hints at chocolate and perhaps a bit of licorice but is clean of fruity esters. The beer finishes roasty and dry, and again clean, with some alcohol warmth.

Very tasty and authentic example of the style that I would love to try again.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
