Hey look! Another saison! OK, I’m not really being fair to Lonerider Brewing Company of Raleigh, North Carolina. Their The Preacher Saison is actually a very tasty beer indeed. It’s just that, well, there are so many saisons popping up all over the place these days. That said, I’m glad I decided to try this one on tap at Taco Mac.
Lonerider The Preacher Saison is one of the brewery’s Outlawed seasonal offerings. It may be draft only, at least I have never seen it offered any other way, and the only check-ins on Untappd I see are for draft. The brewery says this about it on their website:
The Preacher’s sharp blue eyes have seen too many sins. This Belgian-style Saison is created with an American twist. A spicy, fruity ale with a bright citrus hop kick.
Lonerider The Preacher Saison has an alcohol content of 7.7% by volume and I paid $6 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
My mug of Lone Rider The Preacher Saison arrived a bright orange amber color with a thin creamy head and really not much going on in the nose. Taking a sip, though, I got an appetizing smooth maltiness in the palate, then licorice and black pepper spice, and a tasty dry spice finish.
I like the spice here, and despite the strength this served as a delightfully good quaffer to wash down my accompanying wings.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
