As it turns out, the beer is rather good, as one would expect from Samuel Smith's. It is a brown ale in color, with a respectable if short-lived head and a malty/yeasty nose. The palate is rather rich, slightly sweet and nutty with a hint of diacetyl, an almost Ringwoodish yeastiness, a bit of biscuit like maltiness and a smooth, well balanced finish. A lot more malt and yeast than hops going on here, in style it seems a brown ale as it does in color. An excellent pint.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
