So, my daughter went to Macon, and all I got was a T-Shirt. Well, OK, that’s not true. I can’t support that. I didn’t get a T-Shirt at all. I got beer! Yep, she stopped by the Macon Beer Company and picked me up some bombers to go and a logo pint glass. Wasn’t that nice? I sure thought so. The first one I popped was Macon Love, a blonde rye ale with cherry.
Macon Beer Company has been around since 2011, but I’ve yet to come across their beer. Macon is about an hour south of Atlanta and their beer is not distributed in North Georgia as far as I can tell. I certainly appreciate the punny names they give their brews, like Macon Love, Macon Progress, Macon Out, and Macon Music. With names like those, we can only hope they’re selling a lot of beer-and Macon Money.
Of Macon Music they say on the label:
Macon Beer Company set out to create an approachable India Pale Ale. The design would have a smooth and upbeat flavor profile, creating the perfect hop harmony.
Just like any good musical composition, this beer was created as it was being played. The Macon Beer Company Design Team spontaneously engineered this batch of beer composing all the heavenly hop notes together.
The team began with ingredients originally intended for other Macon Beer Company brands and then sequenced the hops to harmonize notes of stone fruit, caramel and spice into a composition of aromas and flavors. This is our result.
Macon Music has an alcohol content of 7% by volume according to my label. My daughter paid $7.50 for it at the brewery.
Macon Music pours to a pale orange color with a thick creamy head and a soft citrus fruit nose. Taking a sip, the beer is lightly caramel malty up front and then quite fruity with citrusy lemon and stone fruit apricot and peach notes. There's a bit of grapefruit peel, and the beer finishes very grassy with herbal hop notes and quite bitter.
A tasty little India Pale Ale that definitely accents fruit. Would I buy it again? Why certainly. Another glass would be music to my ears. Or taste buds, if you will.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
