I’m getting to be a good customer of the Market Garden brewery of Cleveland, Ohio, and their beers are not even distributed here in Georgia. Thanks to my good buddy Dave Coulter, however, I’m sipping a bottle of Market Garden Citramax India Pale Ale, the second beer I’ve enjoyed from Market Garden. Extra credit if you can guess the feature hop here.
I have more Market garden beers in the beer fridges (notes to follow), but today we will take a look at this, their “West Coast” style India Pale Ale. Market Graden describes it as follows on the label:
A West Coast style IPA dry-hopped with organic Citra hops to impart intense tropical and citrus fruit aromas. This brew has an aggressive, boldly-bright American hop character that will leave you craving another.
And it did leave me craving another….
Market Garden Citramax IPA has an alcohol content of 6.7% by volume. My bottle has a best by date of 11/10/2016 on the label; I drank it slightly past that on November 25th.
Market Garden Citramax India Pale Ale pours to a hazy orange amber color with a medium-sized head of creamy foam and a lightly tropical fruity, more citrusy to me nose. Taking a sip, the beer has medium caramel malt followed by juicy citrusy grapefruit and resin, bitter grapefruit peels and a long dry grassy herbal bitterness in the finish. This beer is delightful, amazingly bitter and very flavorful with excellent resiny hop burps and a wonderful herbal oregano like aroma from the dry hopping.
I very much enjoyed Market Garden Citramax IPA. The citrus won out over the tropical fruit notes, but that’s the way I like my IPAs. Give it a try, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
