Citra Claws Hazy IPA
Review Date 12/14/2024 By John Staradumsky
This much is true: I am a sucker for winter seasonal beers. The closing months of the year are in fact always exciting because, to paraphrase Andy Williams, it’s the most wonderful time for a beer. Recently, I added a new holiday seasonal to my repertoire: Citra Claws by Mason Ale Works.
The can label calls this a “Hazy IPA with a hint of Christmas FEAR.” It also tells you this is a “Holiday Horror”, and not much else. I do love the comic book style art, though. Beer and comics really do go together so well.
Mason Ale Works does not have a listing for this beer on their website, but I found the following on Total Wine which doubtless comes from the brewer:
Santra Claus' second cousin, Citra Claws will be sneaking down your chimney delivering this Hazy IPA with a hint of Christmas fear. Packed full of Citra hops sure to warm up any Holiday party and tame any unruly family relatives.
Mason Ale Works Citra Claws has an alcohol content of 7.0% by volume and I paid $6.99 for a single can at Total Wine, where it was selling for $18.99 a 4-pack of pint cans. My can has no freshness dating.
Mason Citra Claws pours to a hazy orange juice color with a thick, rocky head and a nose of fresh juicy citrus. A very thick layer of Brussels Lace forms on the sides of my glass and follows the liquid all the way to the bottom. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body, it’s juicy with orange and tangerine and a touch of grapefruit. It finishes a tad bitter but also hints at spice, and there’s your hint of Christmas?
4 stars for me less a half star for the high price.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
