Gourd Reaper Pumpkin Ale

Review Date 11/7/2025 By John Staradumsky
Narragansett Gourd Reaper Pumpkin Ale! I had been wanting to try that for a while, I can tell you. We do get Narragansett beers here in Georgia, but usually not the seasonals. That being the case, I owe my Gourd Reaper experience to none other than Rogue Pacific Northwest IPA. Now, I’m sure you’re scratching your head on that statement, but here’s how it happened.
It was exactly one week ago that I was putting my review of that fine Rogue IPA together, a brisk Saturday morning here in Vanton, Georgia. I could not remember for the life of me where I had bought the beer and how much I had paid for it. So, I checked out Half Time Beverage to see if I had bought it there (I had not, I bought it at Total Wine), and while I was there I searched for Narragansett to see what beers were available. They ahd the Gourd Reaper! So, $125 for a case of 24 assorted beers later, it was on its way to me, I got the box on Wednesday, drank the beer Thursday, and here we are today.
Narragansett does not have a listing for Gourd Reaper Pumpkin Ale on their website, curiously. On the label, they do describe this as a spiced amber ale with pumpkin. The beer has an alcohol content of 6.2% by volume and I paid $5.49 for my pint can from Half Time. In Massachusetts, Yankee Spirits and Chris Gaspbarro’s Liquors advertise it for $10.99 a 4-pack as I type. My can was stamped GOURD 08/05/25, the packaging date.
Narragansett Gourd Reaper Pumpkin Ale pours to a bright orange amber color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of spicy hot ball cinnamon and vegetal pumpkin. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body to perhaps a bit more. It has a firm caramel maltiness that accentuates the pie notes, a hint of buttery crust, then pops with vegetal stringy pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. The beer finishes dry with spice and invites another sip.
Like a gourd neighbor, Narragansett is there, and you can be sure I’ll be there again for more of this delightful slice of pumpkin pie in a glass.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
