It’s everywhere! What’s everywhere? Why, beer from Atlanta’s brand new New Realm brewery, that’s what’s everywhere. I got my first taste of New Realm on tap at Taco Mac on March 8th (Acca Dacca Ale anyone?), then visited the brewery on St. Patrick’s Day. I’ve seen it in cans at Total Wine, Sherlock’s and Target, and today I’m here to tell you about the crowler of New Realm The Commissioner I picked up at Stout’s Growlers. See? It’s everywhere.
And, it’s going to be even more everywhere. New Realm recently announced that it has purchased the former Green Flash location in Virginia Beach, Virginia and will open a second location there. That’s a pretty swift expansion for a brewery that only opened its doors in January. New realm best beware; it was expansion that did in Green Flash, and the entire company had to be sold as a result.
Anyway, I give you The Commissioner. New Ream says on their website:
This easy-drinking Belgian-influenced blonde/golden ale was brewed to commission New Realm Brewing Co's first packaging lines. Light malt character, fruitiness & clove from the Belgian yeast. Very crisp and refreshing.
New Realm The Commissioner has an alcohol content of 5% by volume with 20 IBUs. A 32-ounce fill was just $7.50 at Stout’s, and that’s a deal because a 14-ounce draft at the brewery is $6.00 ($2.00 for a 4-ounce taster).
New Realm The Commissioner pours to a pale golden color with a medium head formation and a spicy dry nose that also hints at (oddly) cheese cloth. Taking a sip, the beer is soft malty with hints of white grape fruit and drying spice of clove and pepper. It finishes dry with the spice and a bit of hop bitterness.
A tasty Belgian blonde and somewhat reminiscent of the Saison Du Pont I had before it. It’s oh so drinkable and dry with the yeasty spice. This was supposed to be a one off, but as I look at the brewery tap list it’s on again as of April 28th, 2018, today. Then too, I’m sure they’ll be brewing up another batch soon-to commission the new brewery in Virginia Beach.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
