Oak Aged Watermelon Kolsch
Ommegang BreweryWell, friends, I almost didn't have a mug of Ommegang Oak-Aged Watermelon Kolsch, but I am so, so glad that I did. Here's what happened. It was a Thursday, and Heavy Seas beers were featured as beer of the month. They had a really cool glass giveaway, and they do not have glasses all that often anymore, though you do get some kind of prize every Thursday night. So, I went there to meet my son and hopefully catch the Patriots preseason game, the first one of 2026.
While I waited for my son I enjoyed a beer of the month, Heavy Seas The Great Pumpkin Ale. Then I had a New England beer for good luck (Notch The Mule American Corn Lager, went great with our wings), and an Equilibrium Dream Wave Fluctuation. There was one more I had my eye on, that I had planned to drink during the game, and that was the Ommegang Oak Aged Watermelon Kolsch.
Problem was, there was no game. We asked to have it on the TV above our booth, and the manager came back and said it was not available to them. This was a first, Taco mac cannot get the game? OK, we would go home and watch it, but...it wasn't on there either. I have all the usual suspects for streaming the NFL, Sunday Ticket, ESPN, NFL Network, Amazon, Peacock but no, to watch this game you needed Fubo, which I ahd never heard of before. It is, apparently, similar to Sling TV, which I already have and where I have ESPN and NFL Network. I was not adding Fubo, so we would have to miss the game. It's only preseason anyway.
Of course, you are not here to read about football (although football and beer go well together), so back to the beer: I decided to stay and have the Ommegang Oak Aged Watermelon Kolsch after all.
Ommegang Oak-Aged Watermelon Kolsch has an alcohol content of 6% by volume with 16 IBUs. Ommegang says this beer is brewed with Pilsner, White Wheat, and Cara malts.

Tasting Notes
My mug of Ommegang Oak-Aged Watermelon Kolsch arrived light red in color with a light fluffy head formation and a nose of bright juicy watermelon fruit. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body about right for a fruit beer. It's oh so softly woody but really pops with fresh watermelon fruit, like taking a bite from a fresh cut slice. Finishes dry and not at all sweet, this is so refreshing and might be the best watermelon beer I have ever tasted.
Value & Verdict
I paid $8.94 for a 23-ounce draft mug.
Like a watermelon tree blew up in my mouth.
