A Milkshake Orange Blood Orange Milkshake IPA

I’ll be the first to confess: I’m not the biggest fan in the world of “milkshake” IPAs. Oh, I’ll try them of course, and some of them I like well enough. But adding lactose to your IPA to make it creamier and somehow akin to a “milkshake” has never seemed all that appealing to me. Rest assured, I do love a good milk stout brewed with lactose, but the creaminess of the lactose just does not blend well with the expected bitterness I want in an IPA.

So, that being the case, I might never have tried Paperback Brewing A Milkshake Orange Blood Orange Milkshake IPA except for one thing: I’m a big fan of the film A Clockwork Orange, which of this beer is themed upon. So, I bought a can from Craftshack, with thanks to paperback brewing for the beautiful label art. How did that turn out? Viddy well, little brother, and you shall see. Viddy well.

There isn’t really much information on the label or the brewery website about this beer, that I can tell you. It has an alcohol content of 6.5% by volume with 38 IBUs. I paid $4.26 for my can but have no other pricing for this beer. My can is stamped Pkg 10/25/21.

Paperback Brewing A Milkshake Orange Blood Orange Milkshake IPA pours to a hazy orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose that explodes with juicy orange goodness. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, only gently creamy from the lactose, but explodes with bitter orange rind flavor. There’s orange pulp and pith, and the beer finishes slightly minty like an orange leaf and zesty bitter. I like this one-a lot, and in some ways it reminds me of the tasty Orange Julius drinks I used to get at the mall as a kid.

Best enjoyed to the theme of Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie-with a plate of eggiweggs, of course!

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
