The American election cycle is heading for the homestretch. As presumptive party nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump prepare for their conventions, they are beginning to lay out the groundwork for their platforms. While they do, I’m working on a Platform of my own: Platform Lawlessness Porter from Cleveland’s Platform Brewing Company.
I don’t know a lot about Platform Lawlessness Porter per se, although the can lays out an impressive ingredient list:
Malt:
Maris Otter
Munich II
Caramel 35
Chocolate Malt
Special B
Brown Malt
Peated Malt
Flaked Oats
Hops:
Magnum
Czech Saaz
Columbus
Amarillo
Yeast:
English Ale Yeast
See? I told you, impressive. Platform Lawlessness Porter is not sold here in Georgia but I got a can from my good buddy Dave Coulter in Cleveland. This is apparently at least the second incarnation of Lawlessness Porter, as a Platform blog post from October of 2014 says:
Join us Wednesday, October 22 for the release of Lawlessness Robust Porter, a 5% Porter fermented with American Ale Yeast.
The current release has an alcohol content of 6% by volume and is, as shown above, fermented with English Ale yeast.
Platform Lawlessness Porter pours to a jet black color with a thick creamy tan head and an absolutely outrageous nose of rich dark roast and caramel. Taking a sip, the beer bursts with dark harsh roasted barley notes up front along with deep espresso, creamy caramel, smooth pasty oats and a hint of peaty smoke. The finish is roasty dry with grassy herbal hop aroma and bitterness. I just love the earthy hop punctuation from the Saaz and Magnums.
I’m giving Lawlessness Porter a full 5 stars, it’s an amazing robust porter full of flavor and one of the best beers I’ve had all year. So what are you waiting for? Go out there and get some tiger-and tell them The Bruguru sent you.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
