Out of Order Ground Grunt Goodies
Review Date 6/21/2025 By John Staradumsky
How many beers does RAR Brewing of Cambridge, MD have in their Out of Order series, anyway? I’m sure I don’t know. Truth be told, it seems a stretch calling them beer in the first place, although RAR does (American Sours to be precise). They don’t really look like beer. In fact, when I poured my can of Ground Grunt Goodies into a glass, it was so thick and chunky and came out of the can so slowly I thought I had my beer fridge’s temperature control too low.
I didn’t, though, the beer just looks more like a milkshake than like a, well, beer. Ground Grunt Goodies is the third Out of Order beer I have tried. As you can see from the label, it has a Star Wars theme (a number in the series do). The label says this one is brewed with copious amounts of bananas, vanilla wafer cookies, ice cream and lactose. So, a banana pudding themse going on, then.
Interestingly, the label also warns that cans at room temp could ferment, so there is yeast in them. This would be a bad thing if it causes them to explode.
RAR Out of Order Ground Grunt Goodies has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and I paid $6.49 for my can from Half Time. This is the only pricing information that I have, and I do not price off singles as a rule.
RAR Out of Order Ground Grunt Goodies pours to a sludgy yellow color with a thick creamy head (honestly its all head in my glass) and a nose of sweet vanilla cream and bananas. Taking a sip, the beer is super thick and chonky, and very sweet. It’s oh so creamy, kind of like melted vanilla ice cream. For starters anyway. The banana pops and the vanilla cookies do too and that adds a delightful banana pudding note. The sourness comes in at the last, incongruous with the theme dessert, but it does attenuate the sweetness.
Very good indeed and quite delicious. As with other beers in this series, the sourness and dairy add cheesecake notes. This is not a abd thing, mind you. That lends a theme of a banana pudding cheesecake shake so thick even a stormtrooper couldn't miss it. Indeed, this beer is a hit, even if stormtroopers never get one.
I would buy it again.
Glad I tried it?
