Rhaner Winterbier

Review Date 11/26/2025 By John Staradumsky
Oh what a beautiful glass of beer! That's what I thought when I poured my can of Rhaner Winterbier into my glass. What kind of beer would it be, though? Personally, for German Weihanchtsbier/Winterbier I prefer bock and doppelbock, but I have enjoyed some very good festbiers as well. As it turned out, this is a Munich Helles, and a well done one at that. That is a style more suited to warm weather than cold in my opinion, but it can serve just as well in the winter months to accompany a fine meal. I have enjoyed a few other fine beers from Rhaner this year and last in the Biergarten Collection box from Costco. Rhaner Winterbier was another success.
The Webster Barnes website for the 2025 box says this about the brewery:
Located in Bavaria, one of the five oldest German breweries with a continuous beer production history dating back to 1283. Embracing sustainability, they have converted their heat supply to use regenerative energy sources; including a biomass heating center that supplies a CO2 neutral process heat to the brewery.
The Rhaner website does list this beer as a winter seasonal sold in Germany, so it is not exclusive to the Biergarten Collection box.
Rhaner Winterbier has an alcohol content of 5.2% by volume according to my can label and I paid $2.50 for it ($59.95 for the collection divided by 24). That is an amazing deal. My can was stamped
P 01/04/2025 E 01/10/2026. I expect the dates are in European format, meaning the beer was canned last April and they recommend you drink it by next October. I cannot imagine they would can it in January, sell it in September and tell you to drink it by year end. Oddly enough, they are exactly the same as the dates on my can of Nova Cella Schlaubetaler Landbier.
Rhaner Winterbier pours to a brilliant golden color with a thick fluffy white head and a nose of fresh baked bread. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body appropriate to the Helles style. It pops with fresh baked white bread with the crusts. It finishes dry with earthy herbal hops and begs another sip. A textbook example of the style, and a beer I would love to drink again.
Other beers in this collection:
Georg Rittmayer Hausbrauerbier
Nova Cella Schlaubetaler Landbier
Glad I tried it?
