Train Horn Hefeweizen

Father’s Day 2025! Guess where I’m going? Breweries! Well, not just breweries, but…breweries! We were actually celebrating a day early on Saturday, June 14th, and we started our fun at Frankfurt Döner and Meats in Ball Ground, Georgia. There, I enjoyed a delicious grilled bratwurst smothered in sauteed onions and authentic German potato salad.

Although we ate at the deli, we could just have easily brought our food over to our next stop, Rock Solid Brewing across the street. Rock Solid does not have food service in-house, but you can bring your own, sort ofg the opposite of BYOB. There was a food truck (Mexican) outside when we got there, and people were even having pizzas delivered from Dominic’s Wood Fired Pizza next door. I started with a sampler, $12 for 4 5-ounce pours. First on the left in the photo below is the beer I am here to talk about today, Train Horn Hefeweizen. This is a collaboration beer with Reformation brewery, which is right around the corner for me and where I was headed next.

I did not take any notes on this beer at the brewery, because they had it in 4-packs to go, and I liked it enough that I knew I would buy one. I'm drinking one of those cans tonight, hence my tasting notes below. The beer has an alcohol content of 5.1% by volume and was priced a little high at $18 a 4-pack, and they add another 5% if you pay by credit card, which I find annoying. At $18 for a 4-pack of beer you are selling at a much higher profit margin (no distributor or retailer middle men taking a cut), you can eat the 90 cents processing fee. However, I will give them kudos as a family friendly business, because my son's soda and my grandson's juice were free.

Rock Solid Train Horn Hefeweizen pours to a bright golden color with a thick fluffy white head of foam and a nose of pronounced  and authentic banana and clove. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, just right for the style. It’s crackery in its wheaty goodness and then pops with the clove and banana the nose promised. I saved a third of the can and swirled to rouse the yeast, and the beer did become slightly cloudy after pouring this into my glass, but I did not really see yeast descending into the glass. Finishes tart wheaty and very refreshing and I enjoyed it on a on a hot, stormy afternoon.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
